Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement is made by Storage Eel Pie Island for the current financial year. It sets out the steps we are taking to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking from occurring within our operations and our supply chains. Storage Eel Pie Island recognises that modern slavery is a severe violation of fundamental human rights and we are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all business relationships.
Our business provides storage services and related support activities to individuals and organisations. While we operate within a sector generally considered to be low risk for modern slavery, we acknowledge that risks can exist in any supply chain, including in areas such as construction, property maintenance, cleaning, security, information technology, and the procurement of goods and equipment used in our facilities.
Our Zero-Tolerance Approach
Storage Eel Pie Island has a clear zero-tolerance policy towards modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, child labour, and any form of exploitation. We are committed to ensuring that no part of our business or supply chain is associated with these practices. All colleagues, contractors, and suppliers are expected to share this commitment and conduct business in a way that respects the dignity, rights, and safety of all individuals.
Our zero-tolerance stance is reflected in our internal policies, codes of conduct, and contractual expectations. Breaches of this policy by employees may result in disciplinary action, which can include dismissal. Breaches by suppliers or contractors may result in termination of our relationship and notification to relevant authorities where appropriate.
Supply Chain Standards and Supplier Audits
We recognise that our responsibility extends beyond our direct operations and into the wider supply chain that supports our storage facilities. Before engaging with new suppliers, we assess the nature of the goods or services provided and the geographical and sector-specific risks associated with modern slavery. Where higher risks are identified, we apply enhanced due diligence measures.
Suppliers are required to confirm that they comply with all relevant labour, employment, and human rights legislation in the jurisdictions where they operate and that they do not engage in any form of modern slavery. We expect suppliers to implement their own robust policies to prevent forced labour, human trafficking, and exploitation within their own operations and sub-supply chains.
Storage Eel Pie Island conducts periodic supplier reviews and audits that may include document checks, site visits where practical, and the review of labour practices and grievance mechanisms. Where non-compliance or areas of concern are identified, we work with suppliers to implement corrective action plans with clear timescales. If meaningful improvement is not achieved, we will consider suspending or ending the business relationship.
Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing
We actively encourage the reporting of any concerns related to modern slavery or human trafficking, whether within our own operations or in those of our suppliers and contractors. All employees are informed about the importance of vigilance and are encouraged to report suspicions or incidents at the earliest opportunity.
Reports can be made to line managers, senior management, or via established internal reporting channels. Concerns can be raised confidentially, and we do not tolerate any form of retaliation against individuals who raise issues in good faith. Where a concern is raised, we will investigate promptly and take appropriate action, which may include engaging with the relevant supplier, conducting additional audits, or notifying external authorities if necessary.
Training, Awareness, and Continuous Improvement
To support the effective implementation of our zero-tolerance policy, we provide training and awareness materials to relevant employees. This helps our teams understand what modern slavery is, how to identify potential indicators of exploitation, and the correct procedures for escalating concerns. We seek to embed respect for human rights in our culture and decision-making processes.
We also aim to learn from best practice in our sector and beyond. We periodically review external guidance and industry initiatives in order to strengthen our controls, procurement practices, and supplier engagement activities. Through this approach, we aim to continually improve our ability to identify and address modern slavery risks.
Annual Review and Approval
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement is reviewed at least annually to ensure it remains accurate, relevant, and effective. As part of this review, we assess the adequacy of our policies, risk assessment processes, supplier management procedures, and training programmes. We consider any reported incidents, audit findings, and stakeholder feedback to inform improvements.
Following each review, we update this statement as needed and communicate any significant changes to our employees and, where appropriate, to key suppliers. This statement has been approved by the leadership of Storage Eel Pie Island, who are responsible for overseeing its implementation and the ongoing management of modern slavery risk within our business and supply chains.
